- Is my washing machine worth fixing?
If you checked your owner’s manual and/or Googled your problem and it’s not something simple like “clean the lint filter” the answer is “probably not”
Newer washing machines are much more difficult to work on than the older models, which means the time required for repairs is longer.
Also they contain more parts than older models and the parts they do contain are more expensive.
When you combine this with the cost of having a service technician drive to your home and spend time working on it and possibly making a second trip with parts, the completed repair will usually cost you $300 or more and you'll still have an old washer.
Since a new washing machine can be purchased for $500-$600, it's generally more cost effective to replace instead of repair.
